Open Spring exhibition &

Blackheath Art Prize

An exhibition open to members and non-members.
Blackheath Art Prize $1,000

Event held:  October 2008
Judge:
Alan Sisley, Director Orange Regional Gallery

Judge: Alan  Sisley

The judge found it very hard to choose the prizewinners and initially short-listed 30 for possible awards. He  found the standard of the exhibition to be very high showing just how many artists live in the mountains and just how good many of them are. He was pleased to see such a mix of professional and emerging artists. He was particularly impressed with the quality of printmaking. He commented on the diversity of subject, media and style and noted that there were very good works in all fields.

Judge's comments: (not verbatim)

Richard was very impressed with the overall standard of the exhibition with many artists exhibiting works which could have been eligible for awards. Members Annual Easter Art Exhibition

An exhibition displaying the variety of talent among members of the Society. Open to members only.

Event held: March 2008

Judged by: Kath von Witt, Director Hawkesbury Regional Gallery, Windsor.

The judge was really impressed with the breadth and scope of the works in the exhibition. It was very hard to choose, especially the commended awards as there were so many possible contenders.

Kath enjoyed seeing the work of so many artists who obviously must be engaged in the creative process. She reminds us that the need to see art for art’s sake and that being part of a creative process is more important than the whole prize and awarding process.
