About Open Source
If you are unfamiliar with Open Source, do a search on it. It's a great worlwide community endeavour - by the people for the people, created, debugged, maintained and constantly evolving.
Done with enthusiasm by techies and IT-savvie pointy-head nerds - a worldwide online community working with a common interest.
Even mega-corps like Disneys etc are jumping on the Open Source bandwagon as the prices of licenses and continually updating software for their staff and projects becomes ridiculous.

One of the advantages of Open Source is that it doesn't have the commercial pressures of trying to come up with annual upgrades of the product to keep the money coming in. So it is not rushed to market to meet deadlines - so there is time to test for bugs and useability. The whole online user community are the testers and the creators rely on this to and fro to keep upgrading the system and fixing bugs as they go. Your job is to help them and to keep downloading the free latest version with bug fixes and new features.
[Linux is the free Open Source operating system that is offering an alternative to Windows 2000, XP, etc. So you can run your system entirely using Open Source if you fancy giving it a whirl].

For working with text

WordPad and Notepad (you probably already have them)

If you are running Windows, you are probably aware that you have two free text programs.

To find them, go:
Start>Programs>Accessories>WordPad
WordPad is the more sophisticated text creation tool.

Notepad is ok too, but doesn't allow you to use features like bold, add colours to text etc.
Depends on your needs.

To create text for submission to your webpage use either of these tools.
Save as a .TXT or a .DOC file.
